It's Official!

AquaShots is now a regular service at the recently refurbished St Peter's Leisure Centre. By offering under water photos to the children who attend swimming lessons parents can now have a memento of their child's achievements.

To the great delight of many parents now all ages of swimmers can participate in their very own photo shoot in the water! Children who already attend the popular leisure center in the heart of Burnley will have exclusive rights to have their portrait photograph taken underwater.

Parents are encouraged to sign their consent forms early to make sure they are on the list. AquaShots will attend the centre several times over the 10 week swimming course, but over various days to ensure all children are catered for. St. Peters are very enthusiastic about this new venture but urges parents to be quick to sign up to avoid disappointment.

AquaShots assures concerned patrons that only the child who has a consent form will be photographed and that it is possible for 'Joe Public' to have their photos taken too. With prices starting from just £4 who can't afford to have an underwater photo?

AquaShots photographer, Anne-Marie Tomlinson insists on down to earth customer relations. "We strive to be the most versatile, and unique portrait photography service in Lancashire and with that reputation comes quality, affordability and excellent customer service. We want all of our customers to be completely satisfied with their experience with AquaShots, and so far so good!"

If you would like AquaShots to come to you, call your local swimming pool and ask them if they have AquaShots Underwater Photography or visit www.aquashots.co.uk to find out more. For more information about the swimming photos at St. Peter's Leisure Centre, Burnley please call 01282 664444.

Swimming Lesson Photos

Classes of beginner swimmers showed their underwater skills this week at Padiham Leisure Centre. Parents watched with amazement as each child was selected and photographed underwater.

The staff at the popular leisure centre assisted AquaShots by roping off a separate lane to conduct the photo-shoot. One by one the children swam in to the photographer's lane and showed off a series of poses from picking up a brick, swimming through a hoop, and swimming directly at the camera.

All the kids are said to have thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience and some even did things they didn't think they were able. "My son won't even open his eyes under the water" one dad said, "now he thinks he's the best at posing under the water". Brothers and sisters made the most of the fun experience.

AquaShots assures parents that only if the child is completely comfortable will they carry out the session. Each image taken is shown to both the subject and the parent and all images are avialable on a private password protected gallery to view. Then any images can be purchased directly online and parents can even have them on disc to print and use how ever they like.

Cutest Water Baby

Every mother thinks their baby is the most beautiful baby in the world, and they'd be right! A maternal instinct is not something that can be learned, studied from a book or bought, it is a natural gift embedded deep in the heart of a true parent.

When a parent looks at their child for the very first time the overwhelming surge of love and devotion is indescribable and what most of us do it just stare at this fragile new life who has just entered the world and become the latest edition to the family.

Taking photographs of babies is second nature to most, and being in the water is very natural for babies; after-all they have just spent the last 9 months splashing around in the womb.

The unmistakable expression of pleasure is obvious on a baby's face when photographed underwater and in support of this revolutionary concept in photography the search is now on to find the Cutest Water Baby.

Photographed by Anne-Marie Tomlinson, known as Lancashire's most versatile female portrait photographer, your baby has the opportunity to be recognised as the cutest water baby and to become the face of AquaShots.

The contest is open to anyone wanting to enter their favourite Aquashots photograph. If you have participated in an underwater photography session with AquaShots you already qualify for entry.

If you want to see what your baby looks like underwater contact AquaShots or visit the website: www.aquashots.co.uk

Life Guard Photos

Most photographers would agree Underwater Photography is not for the feint hearted; it is a field that they'd rather see someone else try. Anne-Marie Tomlinson is that person and her recently established company, Aquashots, has dived into a plethora of aquatic centres in the north west, including most of the major leisure centres.

It is fair to say that with the technical challenges associated with taking portrait photographs under water, it is definitely among the most elite methods of photography that most people will ever see.

For an image to work underwater there are several key factors to consider and the first is clarity of the water. In order to verify a venue's water is clear enough to hold underwater photography sessions, it is essential a test-shoot is carried out to establish the water's suitability.

With the recent interest from St. Peters Swimming Pool in Burnley, AquaShots is attending the centre next week to carry out the necessary test-shoot. Burnley have opened their doors during a staff training exercise and have offered their staff to volunteer for the AquaShots test-shoot. This means, if successful, the life guards at St. Peters will be the first in the country to have staff training photographs under water.

Making a splash at Padiham

There is a ripple of energy around Padiham this week as news that AquaShots the Underwater Photography specialist is about.

During no less than 5 separate swimming lesson sessions, AquaShots Underwater Photographer, Anne-Marie Tomlinson will be submerged for a total of 3 hours while taking pictures of children at Pahiham Leisure Centre.

Natalie Metcalf, the manager of the centre, said she had never seen anything like it in the 18 years she had been working in the swimming industry. Not only is it a novel keepsake for their children but parents have an opportunity to have a photograph that they can not get themselves.

The law is tight with the use of cameras in aquatic areas so parents will need to sign a consent form to have their child photographed. In addition to this there is a further portrait agreement provided by AquaShots for parents. Upon completion of the mammoth photo-shoot, all images will be in private password protected galleries that only the parent may have access to with their unique login details.

Anyone wanting to book in to this session are advised that only the children participating in swimming lessons at Padiham Leisure Centre are permitted to participate as this is an exclusive booking through the centre. Other pools wishing to hold such photo-shoots are invited to contact Aquashots.

The Dolphin Decent

AquaShots has revealed the secret behind their aptly named Dolphin Decent pose.

An Underwater Photography pose exclusive to AquaShots has been the best kept secret in Lancashire, until now.

There are several ways pose for a portrait sitting. There is the classic forward facing position where the model is looking directly into the lens. A popular look is the mother and baby arrangement, where either can look at the camera or each other, but "The Dolphin Decent" pose is a truely unique look which bares the AquaShots signature.

When it comes to portraiture, underwater photography is the most challenging method of photography. The technical challenges associated with the way light travels through water, disputing colour balance and creating convex angles makes underwater photography an ambitious profession.

Despite this encumbrance AquaShots goes one step further and achieves an original perspective, by defying natural buoyancy and creating a never before seen approach to capturing a unique expression.

With tireless creativity, AquaShots conceived "The Dolphin Decent", when on a photo-shoot during a particularly busy session. With a pool filled with excited children, Anne-Marie hid under the water, using her anti-buoyancy equipment.

It was at this moment that the surface of the water showed it's true potential. Her subjects where instructed how to enter the water for maximum effect and a new pathway was etched out for an alternative perspective in portrait photography.

How To Make An Entrance

One of the most impressive and dramatic stories brought to AquaShots, has touched the heart of head photographer, Anne-Marie, who has almost 2 decades of photography experience.

In just 8 short minutes Sarah-Jayne of Colne, delivered baby Paige who was 9 weeks premature and in the breech position.

Sara-Jayne was overcome by bravery and maternal instincts as she heard the astonishing news that she was about to meet her baby at just 31 weeks into her pregnancy.

Already a water baby, 8 week old Paige enjoyed a thrilling time during her first underwater photography portrait session this weekend. Paige was really in her element as she demonstrated, with ease, her modelling skills.

If this first session is anything to go by, Paige could very well become the face of AquaShots Underwater Photography - so watch this space!

If you would like you baby to attend an underwater photo-shoot, visit the website www.aquashots.co.uk to book your session.

SOLD OUT AT COLNE

According to AquaShots Underwater Photography, spaces for the photo session to be held this Saturday at the popular venue Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne have all sold out, within 36 hours of being available online.

Local sources have confirmed that all spaces to this exclusive event have been snatched up by eager parents in the Pendle area.

The bookings are understood to include a range of ages, for the special Baby Event, including an infant who will be just 8 weeks old at the time of the underwater photography session.

There is speculation at this point if the sold out session is anything to do with the Power Of Three concept developed by AquaShots but sources have confirmed that there are bookings through direct referrals from previous satisfied customers.

AquaShots is now updating the website and taking bookings for the next upcoming photo-shoots due to be held at Marl Pits Swimming Pool in Rawtenstall (Rossendale) and the training pool at the very exclusive Chapels Spa at Brockhall Village in Old Langho (Ribble Valley).

Both venues are holding underwater photography session on Saturday 12th June and bookings can be made online through the AquaShots website

The Power Of Three

Spreading The Word

It's no secret that small business ventures are heavily reliant on good publicity from satisfied customers, therefore word of mouth is vital to the success in any start-up enterprise.

AquaShots Underwater Photography has developed an original concept that not many photographers would dare to try. Not only do AquaShots supply the disc of all the digital images from the photo-shoot but each customer has the chance to double their purchase with their testimonial.

When a happy customer makes recommendations to other people, resulting in 3 or more bookings, AquaShots grants them with a reward of double their order. So whether on a large or limited budget, everyone can now share the news and reap double what they sew!

A daring maneuver from Aquashots, but if it works, coupled with the unrivalled unique quality of underwater portraiture, this could mean AquaShots has dived into the biggest marketing campaign photography has ever seen!

How To Prepare For An Underwater Photo Shoot

It is completely natural to have a certain level of anticipation when it comes to partaking in an underwater portrait photography session especially with submersions of babies.

As discussed in Underwater Baby Portrait Photography, babies thoroughly enjoy the experience and the professional photographer will only require 3-6 submersions, providing that the subject is entirely happy with it.

As it is usually the parents who have the concerns we have created a checklist of things to consider. Feel free to make notes from the following Aquashots tips:

  • Make sure the subject (this could be you or your baby) is rested and relaxed prior to the session, because facial expressions are the most natural underwater.
  • Remember the photographer wants a good photograph just as much as you do, otherwise they won't make a sale, so trust their judgement about the way you look.
  • Try not to eat up to one hour prior to photo-shoot. This can cause stomach cramps which can reduce the enjoyment of the experience.
  • Try not to force the pose to re-create an image you have seen elsewhere, every one looks and behaves differently so enjoying the experience will ensure the best results.
  • Do not enter the water if the subject is experiencing any of the following: sickness, headache or dizziness, sleep deprivation, ear infection or nasal congestion; the water can aggravate these conditions.
  • It is advised not to enter any aquatic venue if the subject has an open wound, contagious skin / blood infection or respiratory virus.
  • Above all, have fun! - Underwater Portrait Photography is a unique experience and you will want to show off some truly original photos so you have to have a good time!

Water Awareness Issues

We all know that where there is water, there are bound to be children splashing, playing and enjoying a good, wet time. But water and kids can make a dangerous mix.

It is essential that our children have the ability to swim.

Drowning is the nation's second-leading cause of injury-related death for children (National Center for Health Statistics). Also, diving and jumping into shallow or unfamiliar water are causes of serious injury and death in children.

AquaShots assists with the promotion of water awareness to parents by offering children with swimming achievements, the opportunity to have a commemorative photograph of themselves with their certificate, underwater!

The responsive trigger in parents and children has been demonstrated through the power of photography, because with the investment of photographs benchmarking milestones parents, schools and pools can work together to fight the fear of water and increase receptiveness in our children.

By demonstrating swimming award skills, AquaShots is able to record the images that cannot been seen above the surface of the water. Imagine being able to see yourself picking up an object or swimming through a hoop!

Underwater Baby Portrait Photography

The definition of portrait is an artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person.

Many people enjoy and value the importance of commemorating life milestones and the most rewarding method is through portraits. One of the most unique photography portraits you can create is a taken underwater because it defies what we understand about photography. It is a highly specialist field requiring special equipment to work with the technical challenges associated with the behaviour of light traveling through water.

In addition to this, to work within the law, scrupulous permissions need to be granted and aquatic areas professionally hired out. Because of these specifications, unlike most other forms of photography, it cannot be duplicated in any other arena.

Is underwater swimming safe for babies? Yes it is. When a baby goes underwater theirdiving reflex kicks in. A similar thing happens as we swallow -the epiglottis closes over and blocks the throat so no water can get through. That's why you often see picture of babies swimming underwater with their mouths open! This reflex is said to last about 18 months so that's another good reason to start your baby swimming classes early.
